Hollywood actor of Indian descent Ravi Patel is the latest addition to the cast of Fox’s upcoming comedy series ‘Animal Control’.

Ravi joins previously announced series leads Joel McHale and Vella Lovell. Per the single-camera show’s official logline, it is a “workplace comedy following a group of Animal Control workers whose lives are complicated by the fact that animals are simple, but humans are not,” reports Variety.

Patel will star in the role of Amit Patel, said to be “an Animal Control officer and overwhelmed family man with more family responsibilities than he bargained for. His partner Victoria has a lifestyle that is so different from his own, they could be from different planets.”

The 43-year-old actor, who was born in Freeport, Illinois to Indian American parents, graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2001 with double majors in Economics and International Studies. His sister, Geeta Patel, is a writer and director.

Ravi has recently been seen in the hit comedy ‘Ghosts’ as well as the English-language remake of the French film ‘The Valet’.

His other recent credits include ‘Wonder Woman 1984’, the docuseries ‘Ravi Patel’s Pursuit of Happiness’ for HBO Max and ‘Bhaag Beanie Bhaag’ for Netflix, both of which he created.

He has also been featured in shows like ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’, ‘Grey’s Anatomy’, ‘Master of None’, and ‘Grandfathered’.

Sen, who plays Kuljit, Simran’s fiance in the musical, shares, “We have one of the largest South Asian casts I have ever seen on a western stage, that too being guided by a creative team that is also predominantly South Asian. Being from Delhi, but having lived and worked in the US now for almost a decade, I have almost always been the lone person of color, let alone the only Indian person, in every circle I have been a part of. So, to be a part of a team where my voice is being represented and heard, and that too positively and accurately, means the world to me. Vaidya, who plays Kuljit’s dad, expresses, “As a Gujarati American who grew up dancing Garba, Raas and Bhangra, I felt I had to leave that part of my identity behind when I pursued musical theatre. But here I am, speaking Gujarati in rehearsals with our brilliant Associate Choreographer, Shruti Merchant, and dancing with the extraordinary company of desi artists in our show. Come Fall In Love speaks about the need for cultural unification in a growingly divisive and toxic world. It is about the celebration of inclusivity and diversity in a world that’s getting polarised by the minute. The musical also has 18 original English songs to treat audiences with and the makers reveal that they also have a song titled Love In Every Colour, that celebrates the theme of inclusivity in the show.

Meanwhile, The Old Globe, one of the most respected theatres in the USA, has announced an extension of the world premiere of Come Fall in Love – The DDLJ Musical due to popular demand. The Broadway-bound production, which opened last week and has received standing ovations for every performance, has been extended for one week only and will now play through October 23, 2022.

This is the second time after Beyoncé’s Indian debut that Ambani captured international headlines — which is probably the whole idea behind it — by inviting global celebrities including British actor and Zendaya’s “date” Tom Holland, American model and television personality Gigi Hadid, Spanish superstar Penelope Cruz, American fashion stylist Law Roach, not to mention Priyanka Chopra, the crossover star, who attended with her husband Nick Jonas.

As famous people are instantly recognizable and attract consumer interest, they can bring attention to a brand in a way that no other type of advertising can.”

Corporate interests apart, occasions such as the Ambani gala, are crowd pleasers. International media gobbled it up with gusto. “Zendaya was dressed in a stunning deep blue and gold sari that was designed and custom embellished by Indian designer Rahul Mishra. The bottom of the dress was bejeweled and decorated with beautiful flowers,” gushed Teen Vogue. Talk of euphoria.

“Gigi Hadid was dressed in a gorgeous cream and gold Chikankari sari by designer Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla. The supermodel paired the glittering outfit with a wrist full of gold bangles,” the report rhapsodized.

Priyanka Chopra has become a global sensation with her Hollywood films like The Matrix Resurrections, Isn’t It Romantic and Baywatch, among others. As the diva is all set to release the thriller series Citadel on OTT, she recalled the obstacles she faced as an Indian actress in Hollywood. She disclosed that there was a perception that if she led an American TV show, only South Asian audience would be interested to watch her.
