Biometric facial comparison technology introduced at all US airports

Biometric facial comparison technology introduced at all US airports

If you or your relatives are planning to fly into any of the international airports across the US, it may help to know that you may be required to go through biometric fascial comparisons.

The Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has completed the expansion of biometric facial comparison technology at all international airports across the United States.

According to CBP the step would further secure and streamline international travel. Currently, at select departure locations biometric entry/exit program already exists.

This new step at the international arrival process works by using facial biometrics to automate the manual document checks that are already required for admission into the US. This process provides travelers with a more contactless travel experience.

It may be noted that it was also a longstanding Congressional mandate to biometrically record the entry and exit of non-US citizens.

In addition, foreign travelers who have traveled to the United States previously may no longer need to provide fingerprints, as their identity will be confirmed through the touchless facial biometric process.

Diane J. Sabatino, Deputy Executive Assistant Commissioner, Office of Field Operations, CBP says, “The use of facial biometrics for identity verification brings travelers one step closer to a truly touchless process that is secure and streamlines travel while protecting their privacy.”

CBP and its stakeholder partners have been expanding the use of facial biometrics through public/partnerships to further secure and streamline travel well before the Covid-19 pandemic to meet the biometric exit mandate while supporting air travel modernization efforts.

Given the need for safe and touchless processes in air travel, CBP expedited the expansion of Simplified Arrival which became even more critical during the pandemic.

The biometric facial comparison process occurs only at a time and place where travelers are already required by law to verify their identity by presenting a travel document.

When a traveler arrives at an international airport, he or she will pause for a photo at the primary inspection point. A CBP officer will review and query the travel document, which will retrieve the traveler’s passport or visa photo from government holdings and compare it to the new photo.

This enhanced process using facial biometrics only takes a few seconds and is more than 98% accurate.

CBP has employed strong technical security safeguards and has limited the amount of personally identifiable information used in the facial biometric process.

New photos of US citizens will be deleted within 12 hours. Photos of most foreign nationals will be stored in a secure Department of Homeland Security system.

US travelers and foreign nationals who are not required to provide biometrics and wish to opt out of the new biometric process can simply notify a CBP officer as they approach the primary inspection point.

These travelers will be required to present a valid travel document for inspection by a CBP officer and will be processed consistent with existing requirements for admission into the United States.

Memorial Day Cricketing Memories in Dallas!

Memorial Day Cricketing Memories in Dallas!

Reading Time: 3 minutes

A great, if not the best weekend in NTCA history, the annual Memorial day tournament comes to an end. A tournament shown through the grit of the players, coaches and parents, we were really on the edge of our seats all four days. With all age categories showing skill, precision and talent, only one team will take it all the way, and feel victory.

Under 11

In the U11 age section, we saw a battle of the win-hungry teams. Only the best out of the best could make it out alive to the finals. In the finals, we saw the NTCA U11 Rangers sport it out against the NTCA U11 Cowboys! There had to be one team winning it all, after a great match of cricket. In this encounter, we saw the Rangers win by 6 runs. The cowboys held up a great fight, taking it to the last over of the game, sadly to get all out. All in all, a great experience for the players that participated in this sector of the tournament and this amazing finals.

Best Batsman : Shayan Khurram

Best Bowler : Tarun Haricharan

Most Valuable Player : Savir Sachin Shah

Under 14

In the Under 14 age category, we had some of the older boys showcase their unique skills on the pitch. Every teM came to win, but only one actually did it. This weekend for them was more of a bonding session, rather less competitive. We could clearly see that these boys just came out to have a hefty go at the trophy, and to just enjoy the sport they love! The U14 finals showcased two very solid teams, the NTCA U14 Avengers and the NTCA U14 Blasters. Two very experienced teams, the Blasters got the edge early on and the rest of the match clicked on all cylinders for them. A decisive win, Blasters took the celebrations high and left the ground with great spirits. Avengers, who on the other hand lost, were wondering what could have happened if only just some mistakes were fixed. Another great tournament for U14 as all the players had fun and played their heart out. A great weekend in general!

Best Batsman : Suvir Gudipati

Best Bowler : Jai Sanjan Manikandan

Most Valuable Player : Shrishaan Reddy Battula

Under 16

In the Under 16 age category, these players that participated had experience, and handpicked skill and perfection! Being the most dynamic age group to play this tournament, the games started off with a bang! Extremely high scoring, with utmost value and desire. Now, this tournament for them was very serious. It was either fly high, or die. Either be trampling, or get trampled. In the final, we experienced the NTCA Eagles play the NTCA Hawks! A very high scoring match, the Hawks pulled away at the very last moment. Sometimes things go your way, and sometimes they don’t. But that’s the hidden beauty of cricket. This tournament really shaped players and cricketers. Even coaches! Spirits ridden high, the Hawks, soared to victory!

Best Batsman : Rishi Ramesh

Best Bowler : Aishik Ghosh

Most Valuable Player : Arjun Mahesh

It’s good to see the rise of cricket playing crowds in the DFW area and certainly such tournaments boost the confidence and experience of young players . There was a time when youth players had to go to other cities on long weekends to play matches , however after NTCA is making sure to provide that platform and experience here in Dallas itself , helping youth players to gain the top notch experience of the game .

Congratulations !! all the winning teams and NTCA for the successful execution of the Memorial day tournament .

‘You Inspire Next Generation’: Kamala Harris lauds Indian Americans at Summit

US Vice President Kamala Harris, at the Indian American Impact Project Summit and Gala in Washington DC on 23 May, praised the Indian-American community in the country for engaging within America’s political system.

The policy sessions focused on the climate crisis, civil rights, educational equity, healthcare access, and equity. The event that commenced on May 18 aimed at commemorating the AAPI Heritage Month, and included not only politicians but also celebrities and philanthropists.

Harris referred to her mother’s work in cancer research and heralded the values of “dreaming with ambition” taught by her, which, she said, made an impression on her throughout her life.

“Every day, in communities across our nation, you are advancing equality, opportunity, and justice. You are inspiring the next generation of leaders, and in particular – the next generation of South Asian leaders.”
Kamala Harris, United States Vice President

Some sessions during the summit also focused on women leaders running for office, and youth leaders who play a crucial role in mobilising the South Asian community.

“Let us always remember, what brought us to this moment and continue to dream with ambition, continue to lead with conviction, continue to strive to do the impossible.”
Kamala Harris, United States Vice President

The executive director of Indian-American Impact, Neil Makhija, highlighted that South Asians had historically been “overlooked, underestimated, and underrepresented politically.” However, with so many community leaders coming together during the summit, “it is clear that it is a thing of the past,” Neil said.
