After a 17 month stint as Assistant Press Secretary and Spokesperson at the White House, Indian American Vedant Patel has moved to the State Department as Principal Deputy Spokesperson.

Patel, who was named to the White House job by then President-elect Joe Biden on Dec 19, replaces Jalina Porter at the State Department.

“A thread – Today’s my last day at The @WhiteHouse. Coming here everyday to work on behalf of @POTUS has been an honor,” Gujarat, India-born Patel said in the first of a series of tweets Thursday.

“Immense gratitude and thanks to SO many – but to name just a few: @jrpaski, @k_jeanpierre – two incredibly talented & tenacious@PressSec that make the podium their own,” he wrote.

“I can’t wait to hit the ground running and don’t take this opportunity for granted, I know that @StateDeputySpox Porter & Deputy Spox (JT) Ice leave very very very big shoes to be filled!,” Patel said in another tweet addressed to his new colleagues at the State Department.

“And to @POTUS, @VP, @FLOTUS, @SecondGentleman – Thank you, thank you, thank you — this opportunity has been a dream come true! … signing off, catch me at @vedantpatel,” added Patel.

“I look forward to welcoming Vedant Patel as the Department’s incoming Principal Deputy Spokesperson,” Ned Price, Spokesperson
announced May 31.

“Vedant has distinguished himself as an Assistant Press Secretary and Spokesperson at the White House since Day One of the Administration. Among his prior roles, he served with me on the Biden-Harris Transition and as a communications aide on Capitol Hill,” Price noted.

“Vedant’s White House colleagues know him to be immensely talented and unfailingly collegial, and I look forward to introducing him to the Department, where I am confident he will develop the same reputation,” he stated.

A part of the Biden Campaign, Patel served as the senior spokesperson of the Biden Inaugural. During Biden’s primary campaign, he served as the Nevada and Western Primary-States Communications Director.

Previously, he worked as Communications Director to Indian-American House member Pramila Jayapal, Western Regional Press Secretary at the Democratic National Committee, and Communications Director to Congressman Mike Honda.

Born in Gujarat, India and raised in California, Patel is a graduate of the University of California-Riverside and the University of Florida.
