As the sun sets on a thrilling summer, the Texas Cricket Academy’s (TCA) cricket camp wraps up, leaving young cricketers with great experience and newly acquired skills. This year’s camp was an absolute success, providing participants with intensive training sessions and invaluable lessons from expert coaches. The enthusiasm and dedication displayed by these athletes have truly made this summer one to remember.

TCA headlines its summer camp with expertise coaching from former India International Cricketer and head coach Thiru Kumuran, former Ranji Trophy Captain and batting/wicket-keeping coach Halhadar Das, and former Veteran and marathon champion, fitness coach Andrew Parry.

The Camp is 3 days a week, Including days Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Each day starts off with a one-hour fitness session with Coach Andrew. This fitness session involves intense exercises with cricket based development. All the exercises are completed with an aim to get better at the sport. After the fitness portion of the day, kids get some rest time leading up to individual skill practices. Groups are made with each going to respective batting/bowling practices. These practices last between 1 hour to 1 hour and 30 min on each day.

.The bowling skill practices include international level preparation led by head coach Thiru Kumuran. Coach ensures that all bowlers are doing it correct with comprehensive feedback and input for each kid. It starts off with some warmups and then progresses into a full scale energetic bowling practice. This practice focuses on spot bowling which directly translates to high-level performance in matches. Bowling sessions end with various types of variations such as yorkers, slower balls, and bouncers. Every bowling session is consistent in its measure. This recaps the bowling session.

Now for the batting session, there are 5-6 lanes dedicated to improving young cricketers’ skills. Four lanes are equipped with automatic bowling machines, having consistent and varied deliveries. Additionally, two lanes are set aside for specific shot training. Under the watchful eyes of Coach Halhadar Das and Coach Thiru Kumuran, each player gets to bat through three rounds of machine bowling. This structured practice allows for personalized feedback and helps these kids improve their techniques, helping their confidence and success at the crease.

After the two skill sessions, the kids regroup for another break. These breaks are essential as they give the kids time to regroup and recover.

Following these breaks is either a fielding session(depending on time) or a whole group net practice. The fielding sessions focus on the movements and assignbments needed to translate success in a real match. It starts off with the basics of a good, strong, and accurate throw. Short throws and long throws each. After that there is some ground fielding which requires you to pickup the ball cleanly and accurately throw.

The group net session is when everyone in their respective age groups come together for practice with each other. This usually lasts for around 1 hr to 1 hr and 15 mins. 2 batsman play at a time, one being in the spinners net and one in the pacers. Coach Thiru Kumuran oversees these practices and gives important feedback to batsman and bowlers with the aim of improving their game.

This year, the kids at TCA summer camp got to experience a once in a lifetime moment! The kids got to meet with former india international cricketer and coach Robin Singh.

TCA coaches with Robin Singh

Something special about TCA’s summer camp is that it not only prepares a cricketer physically, but it teaches them about the mental aspect of the sport, preparing their minds to be mentally strong.

With expert coaching, these kids have grown both in their cricket abilities and mental toughness. Meeting Robin Singh was a once-in-a-lifetime experience that will inspire them for years to come. This summer has been all about hard work, fun, and learning, and the campers are now ready to take their game to the next level. Here’s to a fantastic summer and an even brighter future in cricket!

In a surprising turn of events, India successfully defended only 119 runs to beat rival Pakistan by six runs in a thrilling T20 World Cup match.

The match, held at Long Island’s Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, saw Pakistan dismiss India for 119 in 19 overs. However, Pakistan struggled to chase the target and finished at 113-7 in 20 overs against India’s strong pace attack led by Jasprit Bumrah. Bumrah’s exceptional figures of 3-14 in four overs, along with Hardik Pandya’s 2-24, played a crucial role in India’s victory.

Despite Pakistan appearing to be in a comfortable position at 80-4, Bumrah’s crucial wickets turned the game in India’s favor. With this win, India maintains a perfect record at the T20 World Cup. This victory comes after Pakistan’s previous shock defeat to the United States in a Super Over.

The nail-biting finish of the match left fans on the edge of their seats as Naseem Shah’s late boundaries were not enough to secure a win for Pakistan. India’s strong performance in both batting and bowling departments proved to be the deciding factor in this intense encounter.

The match showcased the resilience and determination of both teams, making it a memorable clash in the T20 World Cup tournament.

Exciting Conclusion! Independence Cup Wraps Up in Dallas!

Exciting Conclusion! Independence Cup Wraps Up in Dallas!

In an exhilarating display of passion and sportsmanship, Texas hosted a cricketing spectacle like no other—the Independence Cup. Throughout an eventful long weekend, cricketers were treated to four days of intense competition, as teams from various states came together to battle it out on the pitch. The Independence Cup not only showcased the remarkable talent and camaraderie among players but also served as a celebration of unity and national pride. There were 4 age categories, U11, U13, U15, and U17.

In the U11 age category, there was a healthy sense of competitiveness in the air. The teams showcased their skills and determination, striving to outdo each other in every match. It was a testament to the sportsmanship and camaraderie among these young athletes that despite the intense competition, there were no ill feelings or animosity between the players. In the finals, it was a fascinating twist that the top two teams didn’t face each other directly, and instead, the ultimate winner was determined by their Net Run Rate (NRR). This added an extra layer of excitement to the tournament, keeping spectators on the edge of their seats until the very end. The champions of the U11 age category were the SDCCYA BOLTS, who emerged victorious with an impressive NRR of 4.8601. Their consistent performances and excellent teamwork paid off, and they celebrated their hard-earned victory with pure joy and pride. The MCA U11 Tigers, despite falling short in the finals, displayed incredible talent and sportsmanship throughout the tournament. Their NRR of 1.6571 was a testament to their competitive spirit and determination to be the best they could be. At the end of the day, in sports, there can only be one winner and one loser.

In the slightly older age category, we saw a little bit more experience where players know what is coming but can still take valuable lessons from each encounter. There were a total of 14 teams in this competition so each team had to make the most of their games. One of our Dallas teams, the MCA U13 Lions took home the championship as they narrowly escaped a tight situation. Unfortunately for the Runners Up, The Austin Invincibles had one game where there was no result. Meaning the game either got forfeited or stopped. The final between the two strong teams, the Lions and the Invincibles would have been a game to surely watch, but hey what can we say? Maybe things happened for a reason. All in All, the U13 age category was no less of an excitement as these players are sure to be talented enough to play high-level cricket.

In one of the most competitive age categories, the U15 age category had one of the most exciting tournaments. The final of this came down to NCAC V.S. HYCC Eagles. Each team had an equal chance to steal the cup, but at the end of the game, the HYCC Eagles earned the pride to hoist it high in the air. There were 14 teams as well in this competition. Everyone here has had equal experience. We sure saw that in the high quality of these matches across the weekend. Obviously, there was still a lot to learn as mistakes were made, and matches were lost. Some teams took the competition too lightly and indeed had to reap the losses. Others took advantage of timely opportunities and snagged victory from the hands of defeat. This is Cricket. This is what makes the game so beautiful and enjoyable.

The most experienced age category, the U17 age category was the most exciting championship. From almost 6-7 sixes per game to almost one bowler taking 5 wickets, an immense amount of passion, skill, determination, and hard work for the game was seen. Every game came down to the wire, with as much pressure from even the tiniest moments as shown. It is no wonder, then, that every game in the U17 championship comes down to the wire. The intense competition creates an environment where even the smallest moments can carry immense pressure. Every run scored, every wicket taken, and every catch made becomes pivotal in the outcome of the game. The players understand the significance of these moments and give them all to seize the opportunity and emerge victorious. The spectators are left on the edge of their seats, witnessing a battle of nerves and skills, as these oldest kids demonstrate their unwavering determination to succeed. The proud champions who took home this U17 championship were the MCA U17 Panthers! Everyone on this team worked hard and selflessly. Great job, Panthers.

Overall, the Independence Cup served as a platform for young cricketers to display their talent and passion for the sport. It highlighted the importance of sportsmanship, teamwork, and perseverance, leaving spectators on the edge of their seats. Each age category showcased the growth and potential of these athletes, ensuring that the future of cricket remains bright in Texas. This is to a successful Independence Cup Tournament.
